My Secret To Crafting a Life Of Better Cartridges

By Kevin Khazaleh

The Difference Between Ink and Toner

Both ink and toner cartridges are integral to printing, and if either of them were missing from the picture, the printing process would be useless. Ink and toner are radically different printing tools, despite the fact that many people believe they are simply the same thing. Once you start looking closely at printer cartridges, you will notice that ink and toner are only similar in structure and composition, and not in how they work. Just looking at them, there are not very many noticeable physical differences between the two different cartridges, but there are some slight changes.

Generally, two different colored cartridges are placed inside of a printer, one being colored, and the other being plain black ink. One reason toner cartridges may seem so similar to ink cartridges is that they are used in almost the same way, and look very similar. However, this is where all of the similarities end, because toner cartridges contain powder instead of ink cartridges which contain wet ink. Surprisingly, they are still able to print onto paper using the same mechanism in the printer. Also surprising is that both of the type of cartridges are considered to be environmentally friendly.

It is actually not that hard to figure out the difference, for their very name can tell you. Ink cartridges contain ink, while toner cartridges contain toner. It is now obvious why you cannot switch between the two different types of cartridges haphazardly. A printer that is designed to spray wet ink onto paper will not work with a toner cartridge, and vice versa.

Depending on your needs, you can find the perfect ink or toner for your lifestyle. If you want the best quality printing, you should go with a laser printer, even though it is a little more expensive than inkjet printers. A household printer does not need to have the high quality that laser printers deliver, so if that is what you are looking for, a simple inkjet printer is probably the best bet. Most retailers will actually refill ink and toner cartridges, so if you want to save some money you can do that as a cheaper option.

Inkjet printers tend to be the standard household printer, because they are less bulky and less expensive than laser printers. Unlike laser printers, ink cartridges can come in many different varieties that will suit the needs of any home printer. But as we said before, laser printers will produce better quality prints nonetheless. One of the reasons that laser printers have higher quality is because the dry ink found in laser toner printers binds the powder to the fibers of the paper. Whether you choose an inkjet printer or a laser printer, you will have a good printer to do your printing with.
