When Considering Computers Recycling There Are Some Steps

By Shari Swanson

Without question there will come a time when you must consider computers recycling in Austin. Some people overlook or simply do not realize that data is left on those old disks. Instead of simply throwing the computer out you need to make sure to remove all that information.

You don't want to take an old computer you find lying around the house and recycle it. You have to remove all that data. This leaves you with two choices. One way is to damage the hard drive on your own. Another is to erase the data on that hard drive. Lets take the destruction of the drive first.

A very good choice to handling the data is to physically destroy that drive. You do this by removing it from the computer. Modern cases will have tabs that allow you to easily slide off a side panel. On older machines you will see screws. Once inside remove the wires from the back of the hard drive and unscrew it.

Search the internet for the best way to destroy a drive and make sure to do it safely. On the other hand you may not even need to destroy that drive. Consider placing it in your new computer and use it as a backup drive. Or buy a specially made enclosure and convert it to an external hard drive.

Another solution that is commonly chosen by those that do not want to deal with drive removal is erasing it. There are lots of programs that can do this for you. Choose one that erases those drives a number of times. The more times the software does this the less chance of data recovery.

Dealing with computers recycling in Austin you have to get your data removed. Many simply take their computer to the center and leave it there. Instead either destroy or erase the data on the drive.
