At What Point Did You Last Perform A Security Audit?

By Daniel Turbin

For many businessmen and ladies round the country, the very idea of Internet security is a vague one. Sure, sure, you may have spent some money to put a basic system ready and yes, you may have gotten fortunate so far and not been the victim of a hacking attack. The issue is though, are you wanting your businesses continued survival to get left to blind chance?

Would you like to leave the future of the business you have spent hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours nurturing and growing, to be left to Lady Luck? If the answer to that particular question is no, then you should make the time to concentrate on data security, because the stats aren't on your side.

If you don't have a solid system in placeif you don't have that system tested frequently, and make sure that all of the elements which make up the layers of your data integrity are continually updated, then it is just a matter of time till you are hit.

Maybe you'll get fortunate. Maybe they will pass you by, or perhaps if you do get hacked, you'll be one of the fortunate few who don't see much of an impact to your net position, but again, do you want to depend on that many 'maybes' all falling into line for you?

Better by a long way to take a pro-active approach. Put a solid system in place ( or at the very least one that you feel is solid ), then arrange to have it stress tested occasionally ( most people recommend yearly, at a minimum ) to make certain that the protections you have established are up to the task of keeping your business safe.

Defend your business. Defend your information. To do that in the present day's business environment means more than keeping a lock on your door and keeping your insurance paid up. In the current day's environment, it also suggests ensuring you have solid method of protection from hacking in place .
