There's lots of rumination going around following the tablet Computer news that Amazon has bumped slate number 2, Samsung to the number 3 spot. And it's only been six weeks. Many wonder whether Amazon?s Kindle Fire will continue blazing off the shelves with ever threat the rumoured iPad 3, other Android contenders, and the upcoming Windows 8 tablets. Let's check out the rumor bin, shall we?
Size Conjecture and Good Old Numbers
Many a tablet PC comparison will tell you that the iPad and the Kindle Fire, though both slates, don't really match up apropos size and price. According to the sales numbers for the last quarter of 2011, Apple still has a lion's slice of the market, an impressive 57 p.c after clearing out an all-time high number of 15.4 million iPad units. On the other hand, Amazon has allegedly gained a substantial market share of 14 p.c, which equates to about 3.8 million units. It's worth noting the discussed numbers are for Q4 of 2011, and that the Kindle Fire has only spent 6 or so weeks on the market.
For this year, it's an entirely different ballgame, and many speculate that we'll be seeing a smaller iPad and a bigger Kindle Fire. According to market experts, they expect Amazon to make a slate that can go up against the heavy hitters at the 10.1 in. or the 8.9 in. size groups. On the flipside, Apple is predicted to think up a smaller version of the iPad at 8 inches, apart from the iPad 3.
What does this mean?
If the rumours are correct about the iPad 3, and we continue to say you should take those with a grain of salt, then it will be released in March or thereabouts and will come with a premium price ticket. The iPad 2 will then be demoted to a lower price group, along with smaller iPad. Researchers believe that though the iPad 2 and the rumored iPad Mini Won't be as inexpensive as the Kindle Fire at US$ 199, nonetheless it will come sufficiently near to lure people away from it.
Amazon's rumored bigger tablet can compete with slates with larger screens and better specs, though let's hope it's something that will improve tablet computer reviews. We'll keep our eyes on these stories so stay tuned.
