The Nature of Computer Hardware

By Jessica Page

There are many inclusions when talking about the computer hardware. Some examples are: the CPU or Central Processing Unit, the mouse, the printer, the keyboard, the digital circuitry, the scanner and other gadgets that can be utilized when using a PC. In short, hardware is any computer part that is considered to be 'physical' unlike the software.

Unlike the software, the computer hardware is not always changed. Furthermore, most of them are not visible to the user when using the computer. Another fact is that hardware is also present in other systems aside from the computer. These can include MP3 players, microwave ovens and even vehicles.

Your system's hardware is run by various software programs and device drivers. Device drivers are also in the form of software programs that allow the hardware to run. You install these device drivers so that the computer's hardware operates properly without problems. Often, you will need to update drivers to insure the system hardware runs smoothly, but these updates are usually readily available on the device's manufacturer's website.

The RAM or random access memory is important computer hardware. RAM is utilized to execute a program and can store small data. In order to have a faster program execution, a higher RAM should be installed. Luckily, updating the RAM is not difficult since it can be removed from the mother board's slot. A mother board is a hardware that operates all the parts of the computer.

There are many kinds of hardware that a computer can utilize. Here are some of them:

* CD-ROM or CD Writer

* DVD-ROM or DVD Writer

* Floppy disk

* Zip drive

* USB flash drive

* Sound card

* Speakers

* Modem or network card for connecting to the Internet

* Joystick or game controller

* Image scanner

* Web cam

* Microphone
