Why People Would Choose Digital Photo-Taking Over Film Technology

By Angela Taylor

People who celebrate special events can treasure memories using photographs. This special occasion could be a party, a barbecue, graduation ceremony or wedding. One thing that has made photography so much easier is not having to deal with film. Film cameras have served people for over 100 years. But the last two decades have seen the rise of digital photography which rendered film photography obsolete.

Digital photography has surpassed film-based photography for several reasons. First of all simplicity. Digital cameras are much simpler to operate. People with absolutely no experience today use digital cameras to produce wonderful photos. Additionally, it isn't necessary to even own a particularly advanced camera to take great shots. These days you can quickly take good photos with a web cam or a cellphone, in addition to the many dedicated digital camera models that are available.

So what are the other benefits of digital photography?

With digital photography people have the ability to almost instantly see the time of picture day have captured; thus giving an immediate idea of quality. As a result, they can discard bad photos and take new ones before changing scenes. This is absolutely impossible with the old technology. It must have been very challenging for professional photographers who might take a shot only to find it's undesirable. In addition, when doing digital photography, people can easily transfer photos to other media.

Without a doubt the old film technology was more expensive than the new method. Once people buy a digital camera they are able to repeatedly capture photos with batteries as their only expense. People therefore are freed of the burden of purchasing film. They also no longer have to make the journey to the photo development store. All they need to do is connect the camera or phone to their computer, in order to view the pictures. Moreover, they will avoid the harmful chemicals that individuals use to develop film photos. Therefore, they will reduce costs and maintain good personal and environmental health in the process.

Digital photographs are highly flexible as compared to film ones. Even novices can make alterations to pictures using freely available software. They can alter the size or perspective. They can change the colours or the contrast between colours, and many more things. It's even possible to change a colour photo to black and white and vice versa. They can do all these modifications with a single stroke on the keyboard or mouse click.

Photographs that are stored on films deteriorate with time. Of course this is a major hindrance for archiving and recalling memories far into the future. This is not a problem when they use digital photos. When it comes to storing photos people can choose from a range of electronic devices. Those images should retain their original quality for the lifespan of those devices.

Digital photography makes sharing photographs easier. One of the newest places for people to share photos is via social networking sites such as Facebook. They can easily attach their digital photos on their emails or upload them on their personal profiles. Their friends can then enjoy their collection.
